A series of horrifying animal cruelty cases has shaken the Philippines in recent months. In Makati City, a community cat was brutally kicked by a foreign national and later died from internal injuries. In Negros Occidental, a dog was used as a makeshift dart board an act Senator Grace Poe called “barbaric.” In La Union, five pet dogs were allegedly poisoned by a neighbor. These cases sparked national outrage and renewed calls for stricter penalties under the Animal Welfare Act.
